YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to grow, succeed, and lead. According to the 2021 Department of Education report on '21st Century Community Learning Centers,' participation in after-school programs makes a measurable impact:

FAMILY SUPPORT
At Urban Family, we understand that family stability is foundational to thriving communities. In Bryn Mawr-Skyway, Washington, 12.9% of the population lives below the poverty line—a rate higher than the national average of 12.4%. Alarmingly, the Black community is disproportionately affected, representing the most common racial or ethnic group living in poverty in the area.
Our mission compels us to break these systemic barriers by advocating for economic equity, providing wraparound support services, and working alongside families to build pathways out of poverty.
COMMUNITY SAFETY
Safety is not a privilege—it is a right. Yet in 2024, King County has seen a devastating surge in youth violence. By June 1, 2024, 310 juvenile felony cases had been filed, many involving weapons and resulting in deadly outcomes. As of July 18, 2024, 13 youth under the age of 18 had been tragically killed by gunfire—more than double the total from 2023.
Urban Family is on the frontlines of prevention. We engage at-risk youth through intervention strategies, mentorship, and trauma-informed care, while collaborating with community stakeholders to address root causes and reduce cycles of violence.
